In this Yankees trade rumors and news update, one ESPN writer doesn't see the New York Yankees as legitimate contender to land Colorado Rockies All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki via trade.
According to David Schoenfield of ESPN.com, the Yankees might not have the farm depth necessary to pry Tulowitzki away from the Rockies this winter:
Anyway, to acquire Tulo, you have to start with at least one top-10 prospect, probably need another top-25 guy or young proven major leaguer, and then add in a slew of other good prospects or young major league talent. The Yankees don't have those kinds of prospects. Keith Law recently updated his midseason top 50 prospects and the Yankees had one player on it, Class A outfielder Aaron Judge, ranked No. 45. Aaron Judge is not the starting point for a Troy Tulowitzki trade.
Schoenfield goes on to add that there are very few teams who have the top prospects necessary to sway the Rockies into deal Tulo, with a potential Javier Baez/Kris Bryant combination being the benchmark for the Cubs in pulling off such a deal.
Unless the Yankees can get creative with a package consisting of both MLB-level talent and a haul of prospects, Schoenfield argues that the Rockies won't be returning their calls for a superstar level who is under team control through 2021 at a pretty reasonable rate.
