In Yankees rumors today, the New York Yankees could look to the trade market for options to fill Ivan Nova's spot after he suffered a partial tear to his UCL (per Chad Jennings of USA Today.)
According to Tyler Drenon of SBNation.com, the Yankees may either lean on young pitcher Vidal Nuño for more starts -- or they could look to the trade market to see what's available -- "Nuño could save the Yankees from having to search for a replacement on the trade market, but if he doesn't general manager Brian Cashman might be forced to begin to do so."
"The most available starting pitcher at the moment would likely be Cubs righty Jeff Samardzija. Unlike most other clubs, Chicago isn't quite ready to make a significant push for contention at this point. They could use a few more minor league pitchers in their system, and although the Yanks' top prospect is catcher Gary Sanchez, they also have right-handed pitching prospect Jose Ramirez."
Nuño has a 2.25 ERA in 20 innings so far in 2014, and his stellar stats in the minors (2.45 ERA in Double-A , 1.44 ERA in Triple-A ) could propel him into Nova's role.
At least for the time being.
