Yankees Rumors: Yankees looking at possible trade for Brewers' Rickie Weeks?

With Spring Training underway, Yankees rumors are in full bloom--the most recent of which indicating that the New York Yankees could have a 10-year veteran second baseman in their sights if his current situation proves untenable.

According to the New York Post, the New York Yankees are rumored to have a keen interest in Milwaukee Brewers' second baseman Rickie Weeks, especially if he comes out on the short end of the Brewers' current competition at second base: "The Yankees also will monitor what the Brewers do with Rickie Weeks, who could be beaten out at second base by Scooter Gennett."

Rickie Weeks is coming off an abysmal 2013 campaign, in which he batted just .209 with 10 HR and 24 RBI in 104 games--posting a career low -1.1 WAR.

His $11 million salary for 2014 (along with a vesting option for 2015 for $11.5 million) could prove pricey even for the New York Yankees, especially if the 31-year-old's struggles last year are indicative of a true decline, rather than just an anomaly.

If these Yankees rumors prove to be true, it will be under the New York Yankees' assumption that Weeks can return to his 2010-12 form, which garnered him a spot on the 2011 National League All-Star team.

Rickie Weeks averaged just over 23 home runs a season during that span, and in 2010, he lead the National League in plate appearances (754), at-bats (651), putouts at 2B (332), and being hit by pitches (25).
