Yankees Rumors: Yankees, Cubs may be the last 2 teams standing in the Masahiro Tanaka sweepstakes

Yankees rumors are starting to surface every couple of hours in regards to the Bronx Bombers' chances of landing Japanese star pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. As of right now, it looks like those chances are extremely good.

According to sources at the YES Network, Tanaka has narrowed his list down to the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. Other teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox seem to have fallen off  in the race to acquire the former Rakuten Golden Eagles' star pitcher.

While there are questions on how Masahiro Tanaka's talents will translate to Major League Baseball, his numbers for the Japan Series champion Golden Eagles seem to be all the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs need to open their wallets. Tanaka went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 2013.

While the Yankees have been adamant in the past about trying to get under the luxury tax threshold of $189 million, it seems that they are willing to back off of that to land a superstar of Masahiro Tanaka's caliber.
