New York Yankees pitching prospect Ty Hensley will miss the 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last week.
Hensley expressed his determination to return after yet another setback on Twitter:
“I don’t care what I have to go through to fulfill my dream of pitching in the big leagues and for a long time. I WILL do it. Keep following my story, there are a lot of bright days ahead.”\
"When I found out I was going to need surgery I was shocked. Again, another year derailed by something I couldn't control. I was right where I wanted to be physically, mentally, and otherwise.
“It sucks. There’s no getting around that.
"That said, I'm done feeling sorry for myself, or anyone else feeling sorry for me, for that matter. I will be fine and I'll be back doing things better than I could before."
Hensley has had multiple hip surgeries, and was badly beaten and hospitalized after an alleged assault last winter. He also had his initial signing bonus reduced after doctors found irregularities in his shoulder.
Hensley was the Yankees’ top pick in the 2012 draft, but has only played in 16 pro games and has yet to make it above the short season Class A level.
