Yankees Rumors Roundup: The Latest on Chase Headley, Max Scherzer, & More

The Yankees weren’t thrilled to see David Robertson join the White Sox, but they’re still chasing a number of high-profile targets that could ease the blow. Here are the latest Yankees rumors as of Wednesday afternoon:

CHASE HEADLEY

The Astros have reportedly offered Headley a five-year, $65m deal, and the Braves are also in the hunt for the third baseman. Headley’s main priority is long-term security, so he’s unlikely to sign anything shorter than a four-year contract. New York currently has a three year deal on the table, and won't be able to go any higher than $48 million on a fourth year because of their limited budget space , according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

MAX SCHERZER

ESPN’s Peter Gammons is reporting that a deal between Scherzer and the Tigers is “not happening”, meaning he is on the open market and looking for a contract over $200 million. New York now turns their attention from Jon Lester, who signed with the Cubs, along with the Giants, Dodgers, and Red Sox.

SERGIO ROMO

Romo is the best reliever currently on the market, and the Yankees are among several suitors trying to win his services, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick. New York is going all in on Romo after Robertson signed with the White Sox.

OTHER NOTES

The Yankees are one of 10 teams that have broad interest in infielder Stephen Drew, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
