Yankees rumors and news travel fast, as just about 24 hours after future first-ballot Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer Derek Jeter announced that the 2014 season would be his last, ticket prices for his final regular season game at Yankee Stadium are hitting the stratosphere.
The New York Times surveyed the crazy rush for the historic tickets in an article posted yesterday--
"At 2 p.m., just before the announcement, a seat to the Yankees-Orioles game on Sept. 25 could be purchased for as low as $26. By 4:30 p.m., the price had inflated by more than 350 percent to $280 — for a cheap seat. The average ticket price, by early evening, exceeded $800."
While these sharp increases in prices for the NY Yankees captain's final regular season season game at Yankee Stadium seem preposterous for the short time frame, it is nothing to what the New York Daily News reported earlier this morning:
"Tickets for the Yankees’ final home game of the 2014 season were going for over $11,000 on the secondary market after Derek Jeter announced he would retire after this season. Opening Day tickets were also being listed at over $11,000."
But, don't worry. If you want to sort-of see the final game for the legendary New York Yankees shortstop, there are still "obstructed view" tickets in the bleachers available for the September 25th game against the Orioles at the low, low price of $285.50.
