The New York Yankees have been viewed as a dark horse in the race to sign free-agent ace Jon Lester, but a couple of MLB employees are cautioning against writing off the Yankees as Lester nears a decision.
ESPN's Jerry Crasnick is reporting that the Yankees are viewed as a legitimate threat to land Lester by at least one MLB front office executive and one baseball scout:
I just had a front office person tell me, "Don't count out the #yankees with Jon Lester.'' Scout hearing the same thing.

According to a report by CBS Sports' Jon Heyman earlier on Monday, the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs appear to be the favorites for Lester's services:
concur that giants & cubs seem like favorites, as @Ken_Rosenthal said. tho least red sox havent been informed theyre out.

While Heyman doesn't mention the Yankees, the indications that fellow MLB writer Jerry Crasnick is getting from those around the game is that New York remains an option despite not being widely viewed as a major player in negotiations.
