Yankees Rumors: Low trade value for Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli?

Yankees rumors have been swirling with the possibility of the NY Yankees trading one of their prized cache of catchers for some help in the infield and/or bullpen.

However, one MLB executive believes that their most prized catching chip may not have as much market value as we have been led to believe.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, one National League general manager told ESPN New York that Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli will not command much in return if the NY Yankees decide to deal him--“At his bandwidth, I don’t think you will get a lot... Most people think of him as a backup catcher.”

There have been several Yankees rumors involving names such as the Arizona Diamondbacks' Didi Gregorious and the Seattle Mariners' Nick Franklin, yet if what this general manager says is indicative of the actual rap on Francisco Cervelli, the NY Yankees may need to sweeten the pot on any trade involving the 28-year-old backstop.

Francisco Cervelli had a tough 2013 season, limited to just 17 games due to season-ending setbacks in relation to a broken hand, along with having to serve a 50-game suspension for the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Cervelli hit .269 with three home runs and eight RBIs in just 61 plate appearances. He posted eight walks and struck out nine times.
