With Yankees rumors and news still buzzing over the final year of Derek Jeter's Hall-of-Fame career, it looks as if another veteran in NY Yankees camp is mulling over the possibility of retirement as well.
15-year veteran Alfonso Soriano spoke with the New York Post yesterday, and left the door open for the possibility of hanging it up after the 2014 Major League Baseball season--
“It depends on how I feel,’’ Soriano told the Post. “If I am healthy I will play (in 2015). If not, I will let it go. It depends how I feel.’’
Alfonso Soriano's production over the past couple of seasons, far from being in decline, has actually returned to the levels of his 2002-07 period where he was considered one of the premiere power hitters in the game. He hit 34 home runs and posted 101 RBIs splitting time between the Chicago Cubs and NY Yankees last year.
The NY Yankees veteran slugger has had four seasons with at least 30 homers and 100 RBIs in his 15-year career. Incredibly, he reached that benchmark in both 2012 and 2013, in his age-36 and age-37 seasons.
If the beloved NY Yankees star does hang it up at the end of 2014, it will most likely occur near the top of his game.
