When Masahiro Tanaka returns to the New York Yankees from the disabled list on Wednesday, veteran Chris Capuano will be moved from the rotation to the bullpen in favor of leaving converted reliever Adam Warren in a starting role.
"I've really gotten back into the starter mode," Warren said on Monday, via Chad Jennings of LoHud.com. "I've enjoyed pitching as a starter, and I wanted to stay that way. I'm excited about it, and that's what I want to do right now."
Warren has a 2.70 ERA while pitching into the seventh inning in every start since May 13th. On the flip side, the 36-year-old Chris Capuano has been iffy in the three starts he's made since coming back from a quadriceps injury this season.
"With Masa coming off the DL on Wednesday, and (Ivan) Nova not far behind, I figured it was a numbers game," Capuano said. "Going to try to be ready to do my job in the bullpen."
