Despite what was by all accounts a relatively amiable meeting with new MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, embattled New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez won't have a chance to bury the hatchet with the Yankees themselves until at least Spring Training.
Per a New York Daily News report, "the disgraced superstar offered to meet face-to-face with team executives to apologize for his role in the Biogenesis scandal and clear the air before players report to Tampa next month, the Daily News has learned, but the Yankee brass declined the invitation, telling Rodriguez, “We’ll see you in spring training."
There are reports surfacing that A-Rod plans to make a public apology to the Yankees and their fans sometime in the near future, but it's unclear at this juncture whether or not the team is willing to provide a forum for him to do so.
“There’s a lot of fence-mending to be done above and beyond his storming out of the arbitration hearing,” one MLB source said in regards to the legal tactics Rodriguez and his associates used during the battle over his suspension last season.
Another source cites the "undue grief and unnecessary expense" that A-Rod put everyone through - an embarrassing situation that may have completely eradicated the team's relationship with their former middle-of-the-order stalwart.
