In today's Yankees news update, New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia acquitted himself pretty well in his first rehab start on Saturday since going down with a knee injury.
Per Delia Enriquez of Bronx Baseball Daily, Sabathia lasted 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits while posting two strikeouts. One scout at the game indicated that Sabathia looked like he was in Spring Training mode, but that his troublesome knee looked fine.
Saturday's start begins a 30-day countdown for the Yankees, meaning they will have to activate Sabathia by July 27th at the latest. Sabathia will most likely see two or three more rehab starts as the organization looks to slowly increase his pitch count and durability post-injury.
According to Enriquez, "the Yankees haven’t announced Sabathia’s next start but Double-A Trenton Thunder must know something everyone else doesn’t know–they’re promoting tickets for next Thursday, which actually lines up with Sabathia’s next start."
At this point, cautious optimism is probably the best course - with Sabathia hopefully inserted back into the starting rotation for the final two months or so of the season.
