The New York Yankees and free agent outfielder Chris Young are working on a deal that would bring him back to the Bronx for the 2015 MLB season, per a report by Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.
Young, 31, was released by the Yankees' Subway Series rivals, the New York Mets, after posting an anemic .205/.283/.346 over 287 plate appearances. The Mets decided to part ways with him despite having signed him to a one-year, $7.25 million contract last offseason.
The veteran outfielder would then sign a minor league deal with the New York Yankees, and the lack of pressure surrounding that contract seemed to do wonders for him.
Young posted a .284/.354/.521 line in a small sample of 79 plate appearances in the Bronx. Despite a downturn with the Oakland Athletics in 2013 and for most of his time with the Mets in 2014, his 20-20 potential will likely prompt general manager Brian Cashman to get something done in the coming weeks.
