The New York Yankees are once again in the mix for a celebrated Cuban prospect, per a report by NJ.com's Brendan Kuty:
The Yankees are one of a number of teams interested in 20-year-old Cuban outfield prospect Eddy Julio Martinez, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez.
One international scout told Sanchez that Martinez reminds him to a "young Andrew Jones." Jones made five All-Star teams and won 10 Gold Gloves over his 17-year big-league career, which he spent with the Braves, Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers and White Sox.
Martinez is subject to international spending pool guidelines. Since the Yankees have already exceeded their international spending limit, they can sign him for any amount of money they so desire before July 2nd.
If he decides to wait until after that to sign, the Yankees will only be able to offer him a bonus of $300,000.
Stay tuned.
