In Yankees news today, legendary former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre has some sympathy for pitcher Michael Pineda after his ten-game suspension for using pine tar to doctor baseballs -- but, he still believes that Pineda deserved what he got.
According to MLB insider Jerry Crasnick, Torre knows that Pineda made a youthful mistake -- but that doesn't mean that the punishment shouldn't fit the crime --
Torre on Michael Pineda: "I feel sorry for the kid, but he created this himself and he'll have to deal with it.'' #yankees

Pineda's suspension came after he was found to be using the pine tar mixture in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox. In an article by Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, Pineda comes across as contrite:
"I apologize to my teammates, and to everybody,'' Pineda stated after the game Wednesday night. I'll learn from this mistake. It won't happen again.''
