The New York Yankees' offseason plans are barely coming into focus, and it appears that money again won't be an issue when general manager Brian Cashman delves into the trade and free agent markets.
“I think it’s always an ongoing conversation,” Cashman said, via Brendan Kuty of NJ.com. “I haven’t been given any definitive, and obviously when he does, given the right circumstances, there’s always flexibility. Ownership has always stepped up for the fan base. It’s never been an issue. We’re just trying to run into some good values, smart, efficient opportunities.”
In fact, Cashman will reportedly have the green light to take on a big salary in a trade if the right value presents itself.
“I guess time will tell,” Cashman said. “Everything that gets presented, I run everything up the flag pole, whether it’s agreeable with me or not, just to make sure they’re aware of everything in the stratosphere of free agents as well as trades.”
Just like under Hal's dad, George, there doesn't appear to be much restricting the Yankees from spending in the marketplace.
“The only restrictions are from past commitments,” Cashman said. “In terms of having open dialogue and discussion with ownership regarding marketplace, both free agent and trade, I never feel restricted in having those conversations.”
