There have been a lot of pessimistic members of the Yankees news cycle who think that the NY Yankees' unprecedented half-billion dollar spending spree this offseason won't amount to what counts -- victories.
Don't count noted ESPN Yankees beat writers Andrew Marchand and Wallace Matthews as part of this "sky is falling" camp.
When asked how many games the Yankees will win during the 2014 MLB season, Andrew Marchand didn't hesitate to predict a playoff berth for the Bronx Bombers --
"The Yankees will win 90 games and earn the second wild card because their lineup is better and the additions of Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda, to go along with a more mature Ivan Nova, will give them a deeper rotation for 162 games. David Robertson will be fine in the closer role, while rest of the bullpen is a question mark."
Rather than disagree with his colleague, Wallace Matthews did him one better: "There's a lot of upside here, and assuming everyone stays reasonably healthy and performs as expected, I think this team is at least five wins better than last year's team and probably more like seven. So I'll say they win 92 games and snag the the first AL wild card."
With many pundits placing the Yankees anywhere from 83-87 wins due to their lack of infield depth and questions in their bullpen, 90-92 victories and a chance at a World Series title may come as music to NY Yankees' fans ears come this October.
