Yankees News: Derek Jeter to 8th on all-time hits list

Yankees news is in a congratulatory mood today, with New York Yankees captain making another bit of history in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

With two hits in the first four innings of Sunday's 6-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, Derek Jeter passed Paul Molitor (3,320) for eighth on the all-time hits list.

Jeter picked up the tying hit with a single in the third inning to right, then grounded one into right field in the fourth inning to pass the Milwaukee Brewers' legend.

Derek Jeter raised his batting average on the early season from under the Mendoza line at .167, to a comfortable .286.

Jeter who turns 40-years-old midseason, is just 99 hits behind Boston Red Sox Hall-of-Famer Carl Yastrzemski for seventh, and 110 hits behind Honus Wagner for sixth.

The beloved Yankees captain is in the 20th and last season of his MLB career, with retirement looming at the end of the 2014 MLB season.
