Maligned New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez will meet with team officials prior to spring training in an attempt to clear the air, GM Brian Cashman said on Friday.
"It cannot hurt," Cashman stated prior to the Connecticut Sports Foundation dinner.
Per ESPN's Andrew Marchand, "Cashman said he, assistant GM Jean Afterman and one of Rodriguez's lawyers, Jim Sharp, spoke Thursday, and Rodriguez's side requested the meeting before spring training. No date has been set yet."
If the meeting does actually occur, it is unclear as to whether owner Hal Steinbrenner or team president Randy Levine will be present.
After Cashman's announcement, manager Joe Girardi publicly supported the team's decision to meet with Rodriguez and hash some things out.
"I think it's important," Girardi said. "There's a lot that has transpired over the last couple of years. We want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Alex is one of our players and our job is to get the best out of him. We will continue to support him."
