Trending Yankees News: Derek Jeter wants to own an MLB team

In tonight's Yankees news update, don't assume that New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter's days in Major League Baseball will be over once he retires as an active player at the end of the 2014 MLB season.

According to New York Daily News (via Hayden Kane of FanSided), Jeter was asked at a recent charity event if he ever thought about owning a team once he hangs up his cleats:

“Yup, that’s the next goal, buddy,” said Jeter. “Calling the shots, not answering to someone.”

What kind of owner would Jeter be? “A good one. I’d like to think I’d be a good one,” he said.

Jeter also indicated that he learned a lot about the job from late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.

“I’d probably be a little bit more behind the scenes than The Boss,” Jeter said Sunday, referring to late Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. “But I learned a lot of great things from him.”

Jeter was also asked why he may not go the traditional route and manage an MLB club.

"Why not managing? Too much travel, bro.”

There you have it.
