New York Yankees rumors seem to be fixated on how the Yankees final roster will look come April, but it is a role that is seemingly set in stone which is generating some headlines.
28-year-old New York Yankees righthander David Robertson has been tabbed as the heir apparent to future Yankees' Hall of Fame closer Mariano Rivera, and from his interview with the New York Daily News on Tuesday, the transition isn't daunting for him:
“It’s the same deal — throwing the eighth or ninth inning, you still have to get three outs, you’ve got to be effective, you can’t give up the lead.” Robertson added, “in my eyes, I’m not going to try to overthink the situation."
In fact, David Robertson went as far as to claim that he hasn't earned the historic opportunity of following in the footsteps of the 13-time Major League Baseball All-Star, stating "it's not mine, yet," in reference to the Yankees' closing role.
David Robertson appeared in 70 games with the New York Yankees in 2013, posting a 2.04 ERA and impressive 4.3-to-1 strikeout/walk ratio in 66.1 innings pitched.
