Following young New York Yankees starter Michael Pineda's dominant performance against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, New York Daily News writer Bill Madden heaped some major praise on the 5-0 righty.
Looking back on GM Brian Cashman's trade which shipped Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners back in January 2012 for Pineda, Madden posited in a recent piece that Cashman got the extreme good end of that deal:
Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium, a Mother’s Day crowd of 39,059, got to see the fruition of the deal from Cashman’s standpoint when Pineda dominated Buck Showalter’s Baltimore Orioles with 16 strikeouts over seven innings in his most electrifying performance yet as the Yankees’ answer to Matt Harvey. Yes, you can mention Pineda and Harvey in the same sentence as their records are almost the same. It’s just that Pineda doesn’t get quite the same hype.
Matt Harvey without the hype? We can get behind that.
