A day in New York Yankees rumors is not complete without an update on the ongoing war between Alex Rodriguez and Major League Baseball, and it is looking like MLB officials are ready to end the fight sooner rather than later.
As reported earlier today, Major League Baseball has officially filed to have New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez's lawsuit, which challenges his year-long suspension for his purported role in the Biogenesis steroid scandal, completely dismissed.
MLB lawyer Howard Ganz discredited A-Rod's lawsuit on Tuesday in a letter to U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos, citing standards for vacation of an arbitration award that are "purposefully high and specifically designed to prevent courts from substituting their own judgment for that of the labor arbitrators selected by the parties."
On January 11th, arbitrator Fredric Horowitz reduced A-Rod's suspension from 211 games to 162 games, citing the New York Yankees superstar's use of banned substances from 2010-12 along with two attempts to obstruct Major League Baseball's investigations as reasoning for not reducing the suspension any further.
Alex Rodriguez and his team of lawyers filed the lawsuit in question two days later, citing "ethically challenged behavior" and alleged breaches of Major League Baseball's confidentiality agreement by MLB officials.
