The land of New York Yankees rumors won't be the same without Yankees captain Derek Jeter, and one of the faces of the rival Boston Red Sox will be sad to see the legend hang it up after this season.
As reported by Newsday.com, speaking with SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio on Tuesday, Red Sox slugger and ambassador David Ortiz made it clear that the game of baseball will not be the same without Jeter--
"If there's one guy that the baseball game is gonna miss once he's retired, it's Derek," Ortiz said. "Derek is very professional, that's a guy that is all about the game, all about the business. He is one of the baseball players that I can tell you that pretty much his whole career has done everything perfectly right. And when I watch him play I get goose bumps."
It is hard to fully gauge the impact that the New York Yankees shortstop has had on the game of baseball as a whole. Yet, when David Ortiz, the face of the Yankees most despised nemesis, comes out with sterling words for the 20-year veteran...the impact is made clear.
Derek Jeter has not yet recorded a hit this spring, going 0-for-9 so far in four appearances.
However, all the New York Yankees seem interested in is making sure the 39-year-old future first ballot Hall-of-Famer is healthy enough to make his last season a memorable one.
