The New York Yankees are in hot pursuit of 19-year-old Cuban infielder Yoan Moncada, and have long been considered the favorite to land the coveted prospect.
Now, it appears they may have serious competition from the San Diego Padres.

San Diego been the most aggressive team in the league this offseason, bringing in a multitude of big name players via trades or free agency, the latest being star pitcher James Shields.
The bidding for Moncada is expected to be a $60 million - $80 million between taxes and a $40 million - $50 million signing bonus. New York is still the favorite, but the added competition may cost them a couple more million dollars than before.
