NY Yankees rumors have been Derek Jeter-centric, ever since the Yankees' captain announced that he will retire at the end of the 2014 Major League Baseball season.
The one question that has been on most NY Yankees fans minds is whether or not the future Hall-of-Famer will be healthy enough to make his last season with the NY Yankees a memorable one. At this juncture, signs are looking positive.
Speaking with the media after the NY Yankees' 8-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi shared his synopsis on how Derek Jeter looked his first game back from a left ankle injury--
“Last year, running seemed to bother him as much as anything," Girardi stated. “To me that was where it was most noticeable last year, when he was running the bases, so to me, that’s where it’s going to show up. But there were no issues today."
Derek Jeter was limited to just 17 games with the NY Yankees last season, marking only the third time in Jeter's 19-year-career that he had missed over a quarter of the NY Yankees' regular season games.
The NY Yankees' ambassador went 0-for-2 in his Spring Training debut, grounding into one double play. Not one ground ball was hit Jeter's way, leaving his range in the field after injury up to speculation.
