David Robertson is not a household name, but with more and more lights out relief pitches, he is on his way to New York fame.
Robertson has been on the Yankees for four years now and has comfortably transitioned into the setup role with Joba Chamberlain and Rafael Soriano on the DL. Robertson has 25 holds this season and a career-low ERA of 1.17.
It was Robertson’s reliability that earned his an All Star start and appearance this summer in Arizona. After Red Sox starter Josh Beckett felt soreness while warming up, Robertson warmed up quickly and entered the game to pitch one inning. Robertson gave up one hit, but ended the inning without giving up any runs.
Off the field Robertson does his part to help out the community with the charity he and his wife, Erin started, High Socks for Hope. With every strikeout, Robertson donates $100 to tornado relief in Tuscaloosa and other parts of Alabama, his hometown.
With Soriano scheduled to make a rehab start soon, Robertson may have to step down from the setup role, but with his reliable efforts, he is sure to stay in contention.
Robertson also makes sure to stay close to fans by tweeting and responding to fans’ tweets often. You can follow him @DRob30
