A lot has been made of late in the Yankees' spring training about the return of the egotistical, over the hill, Alex Rodriguez. Opinions are varied on whether or not Rodriguez should be forgiven or even allowed on the field this upcoming season. These arguments are trivial and pointless to take part in because regardless of anyone's opinion, the fact remains that A-Rod will in fact be in the lineup on opening day. The more pressing question is whether or not he will have any positive impact for the Yankees.
The answer is unequivocally NO. If anything A-Rod's presence will undoubtedly hamper the Yankees' ability to be competitive this year on a number of fronts.
1. He is a mental midget
Alex Rodriguez has always been seen as one of the most gifted baseball players of this era, steroids or not. That being said, he has also been known to be a prima donna and a headcase. This has manifested itself time an time again throughout his career, even before this entire ordeal involving PED's was brought into public view. A-Rod has a peculiar need to have any and everyone love and worship him to a certain extent, and has always reacted poorly to public criticism, regardless of whom his critics were.
Look no further than his first season with the Yankees to see how A-Rod's weak psyche plagued his ability on the field. Yes, he faced some unwarranted criticism from Yankee fans, especially for someone who smacked 36 dingers, driving in 106 runs respectively.
