Complete List of Baseball PED Suspensions from the Biogenesis Investigation

Major League Baseball announced suspensions for several players today (August 5th) in connections to the performance enhancing drug company Biogenesis. The news has mainly centered around a few players like Alex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, and Ryan Braun, but here's the complete list of suspensions, with links to full articles about each player (as available):

 

Ryan Braun (Milwaukee Brewers) – The 2011 NL MVP, Braun accepted a suspension from MLB for the remainder of the 2013 season.  This coming after Braun won a drug suspension appeal in 2012 through arbitration.

Alex Rodriguez (New York Yankees) – The 14-time All-Star and 3-time AL MVP has been rehabbing from hip surgery in 2013.  After a lengthy investigation, MLB suspending Rodriguez 211 games (through the 2014 season), effective August 8th for attempting to cover-up and obstruct the investigation.  A-Rod will appeal the suspension, and can play during that time and, as such, is expected to make his season debut tonight (August 5th).

Nelson Cruz (Texas Rangers) – The All-Star right-fielder for the Rangers is batting .269 with 27 home runs in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Jhonny Peralta (Detroit Tigers) – The All-Star shortstop for the Tigers is batting .305 with 11 home runs in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Everth Cabrera (San Diego Padres) – The All-Star shortstop for the Padres is batting .283 with 37 stolen bases in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Francisco Cervelli (New York Yankees) – The Yankees catcher has been on the DL most of this season with a fractured hand.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Bartolo Colon (Oakland A’s) – The former All-Star is 14-3 in 2013 with a 2.50 ERA.  Since he served a 50-game suspension last year after testing positive for synthetic testosterone, he was not suspended again.

Melky Cabrera (Toronto Blue Jays) – The 2012 All-Star game MVP is batting .279 this year for the Blue Jays.  Cabrera was suspended for 50 games last year after testing positive for high levels of testosterone, so he was not suspended again as a result of this investigation.

Yasmani Grandal (San Diego Padres) – The Padres catcher has played 28 games this season, batting .216.  He’s been on the DL since July 7 with a knee sprain.  He was suspended in 2012 as well.

Antonio Bastardo (Philadelphia Phillies) – The Phillies reliever has a 2.32 ERA in 42.2 innings in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Jordany Valdespin (New York Mets) – The Mets utility player has hit .188 in 66 games in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Jesus Montero (Seattle Mariners) – The Mariners catcher has spent most of 2013 at AAA Tacoma after struggling early in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Cesar Puello (New York Mets organization) – An outfield prospect for the Mets, Puello is hitting .328 with 16 home runs at AA Binghamton in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Fernando Martinez (New York Yankees organization) – An outfield prospect for the Yankees, Martinez is hitting .325 with 4 home runs in 22 games since being called up to AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Jordan Norberto (Free Agent) – A former pitching prospect for the Oakland A’s, Norberto only appeared in 3 games in 2013 at AAA Sacramento.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Fautino De Los Santos (San Diego Padres organization) - A pitching prospect for the Padres, De Los Santos has only appeared in 2 games in 2013 at AAA Tucson.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.

Sergio Escalona (Houston Astros organization) – A pitcher with some big-league experience, Escalona is 1-2 with a 6.60 ERA in 12 appearances at AA Corpus Christi in 2013.  He has accepted a 50-game suspension for his connection in the case.
