With just a few days left until the MLB Trade Deadline, the New York Yankees are active in their efforts to pull off another trade. After netting Todd Frazier, David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle from the Chicago White Sox earlier this month, New York's priority is to add another top-tier starting pitcher. Here are the top four players the Yankees are targeting before the deadline:
4) 1B Yonder Alonso
Alonso is in the middle of a breakout season and Oakland is looking to flip him when his stock is the highest. The Yankees are interested in him in hopes he can add another power bat to their lineup. There hasn't been a whole lot of interest from other teams since many don't need a power bat - which could make him a cheap addition for New York.
3) RP Justin Wilson
Even after adding a pair of relievers earlier this month, the Yankees have interest in Justin Wilson of the Detroit Tigers. Wilson has been sharp this year, with a 2.75 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 55 strikeouts with 12 saves. However, the Tigers' asking price is likely far too much for the Yankees as they're reportedly asking for a return similar to what the Yankees landed when they dealt away Aroldis Chapman. Is New York willing to part with that many assets?
2) SP Yu Darvish
Darvish isn't at the top of New York's wishlist given that he is in the final year of his contract and is rental, but the Yankees are definitely interested. They sent scouts to watch Darvish pitch last week, and if they decide the price for some of the other pitchers on the trade market is too high, they may become more aggressive in their pursuit of Darvish. After all, his price won't be as high given that he is a rental, and Texas seems determined to deal him.
1) SP Sonny Gray
The Yankees have been negotiating with the Oakland A's about a deal that would send Sonny Gray to the Bronx and are considered the favorites to land Gray. There was so much momentum behind this deal that it reportedly could have been completed by today. However, talks have stalled as Oakland appears to be holding out in hopes that New York will relent and give up either Clint Frazier or Gleyber Torres. If the Yankees decide to part with one of them, the deal will get done.
