We're less than three weeks away from the 2015 MLB trade deadline, which means there are plenty of rumors swirling around the New York Yankees and what they might do on the trade market. Here are three trades they could make by the deadline:
Trade C Gary Sanchez, prospects to Reds for Johnny Cueto
Cueto is the top pitcher on the market, and the Yankees desperately need a boost to their rotation. They're currently in first place at the All-Star break, but they're holding onto a slim lead - only 6.5 games separate them from the last place Red Sox. However, the Reds aren't going to give up Cueto for cheap, and this trade gives them a good haul in return.
Brian McCann is already entrenched behind the plate in New York, so giving up Sanchez and a few prospects won't hurt the team while they get a big boost in return.
Trade SS Abiatal Avelino, RHP Nathan Eovaldi to Oakland for Ben Zobrist
Avelino is one of the best prospects in the Yankees farm system, and the A's desperately need an upgrade at shortstop since Marcus Siemen, who leads the league in errors. Billy Beane loves to load up on cheap, talented prospects, and the Yankees would gladly give up these two for a player of Zobrist's hitting and versatility in the field.
Trade 2B Rob Refsnyder, C Gary Sanchez, prospects to Reds for Brandon Phillips
The Reds haven't officially put Phillips on the market, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Cincinnati dealt him while they rebuild. New York would have to give up two MLB-caliber players in Refsnyder and Sanchez, but those players haven't been able to break through the rotation. They'd get their chance in the Reds, while the Yankees would get a premier second baseman another bat to add to their lineup.
