We're still a couple of months away from the 2017 MLB trade deadline, but there are already plenty of rumors swirling around the New York Yankees and what they might do on the trade market. After their hot start to the season, the Yankees are looking to add more talent before the deadline for a potential World Series run. Here are three players they should be targeting:
1) Jose Quintana, SP, Chicago White Sox
New York is looking to add another quality starter to their rotation, and Quintana's name has been mentioned in trade rumors for the past year as Chicago nearly dealt him at last year's trade deadline. However, the White Sox are not in a rush to trade him and won't do so unless someone meets their asking price. The Yankees were interested in him this offseason, but didn't advance talks because of Chicago's asking price. Will they reconsider now that they're contenders?
2) Sonny Gray, SP, Oakland A's
Oakland is simply not going to be willing to pay the amount it will take to keep Gray in town once his contract expires, so as they're known to do, the A's are ready to flip one of their best players for prospects. Because of that, he's probably more available than Quintana - but past injuries could scare some teams off. The Yankees have also already expressed interest in him.
3) Josh Donaldson, 3B, Toronto Blue Jays
The lone position player on this list, Donaldson is expected to be made available by the Blue Jays once he returns from a calf strain (expected to be early June). There's a chance the Blue Jays could become more competitive before Donaldson returns, but if they continue to struggle, New York will be interested in him. They need an upgrade at third base, and it always helps to add another bat to the lineup.
