It's still early in free agency, which means everyone is talking about the big name options. Players like Johnny Cueto, Zack Greinke, Ben Zobrist and Alex Gordon are dominating the hot stove and for good reason. Those are big-time players and they'll command big bucks. However, there are other players who aren't getting quite as much love that will help a team next season. The New York Yankees could use a second baseman and starting pitching help and it doesn't seem like they'll break the bank this year. With that in mind, here are 3 Free Agents No One Is Talking About That The Yankees Could Sign:
Mat Latos, SP
This spot was originally going to go to a player like Mike Leake, but I decided he's a little too well-known. Latos is a much better fit, since there aren't many rumors surrounding him. The Yankees were linked to him during the season, although they ended up not making a move for him. Latos has his issues and struggled last season on a few different teams. However, there is the chance he could rediscover his old form. He was a great pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds a few seasons ago. This would be a one-year flier signing.
Wei-Yin Chen, SP
Chen barely fits as an option here, because there is noise surrounding him. He's already been linked to the Yankees and it makes sense as a possible move. The Yankees won't be able to afford a top-tier pitcher, so settling for someone like Chen makes sense. He's a durable lefty who has been consistent during his time in the majors. His affinity for allowing home runs is worrisome, but Chen makes sense as a free agent addition for the Yankees.
Daniel Murphy, 2B
Zobrist is the preferred candidate, but everybody wants Zobrist. Stealing Murphy away from the Mets hasn't received as much consideration, but it could happen. It'd be a classic Yankees move. However, this one seems unlikely to happen. The Yankees want a defensive-minded second baseman and that's something Murphy is not.
