The 2014 New York Yankees may have had an uneven year altogether, but there were also plenty of encouraging signs for the franchise’s future as a whole. No team has divided baseball analysts quite like this current Yankee roster, but there’s no denying the upside present. With that in mind, here’s 3 reason why we think this Yankees team can put it all together and win a World Series in 2015.
1) Explosive offense
Many wondered where the Yankees would get their offense from this season, but that's been the least of their worries during the opening stretch of the season. They rank in the top 10 in the majors in runs, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, and don't numbers aren't expected to go down with the way Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, and Jacoby Ellsbury are swinging the bat.
2) A lethal bullpen
The Yankees may have lost David Robertson in free agency, but they’re none the worse for wear for it in the ‘pen. Despite ranking 27th in the league in quality starts, the Yanks rank in the top five in team ERA and WHIP, in the top 10 and opponents batting average, and are in first in the AL East because of their relief pitching.
New York’s 8-9 duo of Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller is pure filth in a real good way, and the supporting cast around them consists deft mix of specialists, youth, and intriguing veteran pieces. There’s also enough depth to give the Yankees plenty of plug-and-play options if someone gets hurt, making for one of the AL’s best bullpens.
3) Brian Cashman
Let’s just say the New York Yankees are firmly in the AL East and AL Wild Card mixes come July 1st. GM Brian Cashman will likely then be given the green light to address any needs/holes on the MLB roster before July 31st’s MLB trade deadline. Who’re are we to count out recently named by In Pursuit of Pennants as the 21st-best general manager in the history of Major League Baseball? Let the wheeling and dealing commence.
