1. Austin Romine on the block?
Yankees catcher Austin Romine has drawn trade interest from the Phillies and Padres, per a report by George A. King III of the New York Post. John Ryan Murphy has emerged as the favorite to land the team's backup catching gig, so Romine may very we be expendable.
The Yankees have already traded one catcher this offseason (Francisco Cervelli) and may not hesitate to deal another if either the Padres or Phillies play ball.
2. Carlos Beltran, Stephen Drew not drawing rave reviews
According to Andy Martino of the New York Post, both Stephen Drew and Carlos Beltran have been disappointments this spring according to several scouts' observations. Both veterans aren't hitting particularly well at all, and questions are starting to emerge for Beltran about whether he has the range to play right field anymore.
While this may very well just be a case of two slow starts, it's at least something to keep an eye on heading towards the 2015 MLB season.
3. Yankees declined to match Boston's Yoan Moncada offer
New York was given the opportinity to match Boston's winning $31.5 million deal to Cuban sensation Yoan Moncada, but they decided to decline.
“I feel we put him through the highest level of scouting and medical evaluation," GM Brian Cashman said recently. "I just wasn’t comfortable offering what we actually offered ($25MM), let alone going any higher."
