We're just days away from the 2015 MLB trade deadline, which means there are plenty of rumors swirling around the New York Yankees and what they might do on the trade market. Here are two trades they could make:
Trade 2B Rob Refsnyder, SS Abiatal Avelino, RHP Jacob Lindgren to A's for Ben Zobrist
Avelino is one of the best prospects in the Yankees farm system, and the A's desperately need an upgrade at shortstop since Marcus Siemen, who leads the league in errors. Refsnyder hasn't been able to crack New York's lineup on an everyday basis, and since Billy Beane loves to load up on cheap, talented prospects, the Yankees would gladly give up these three for a player of Zobrist's hitting and versatility in the field.
Trade C Gary Sanchez, RHP Jacob Lindgren to Marlins for RHP Mat Latos
The Yankees have shown some interest in Marlins righty Mat Latos, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.
New York has a need to add rotation depth at the deadline, and join a growing list of clubs that want to take a chance on Latos’s resurgence and past success. Sanchez doesn't expect to see a lot of time behind the plate in New York with Brian McCann in town, but he's definitely an MLB-caliber catcher. However, the Yankees will need to throw in one of their top pitching prospects in Lindgren for this deal to work.
Latos has a modest 4.48 ERA with a 4-6 record through 15 starts this season, but has a career 3.43 ERA and a .557 winning percentage.
