Why Ronald Zubar’s suspension is extra painful for Red Bulls

The Red Bulls lost their opener and are rapidly losing players as well.

Starting centerback Ronald Zubar has been suspended for Saturday’s game at the Montreal Impact (4 p.m., MSG2). It lengthened the list of absentees, and deepened the team’s defensive concerns.

Argentine designated player Gonzalo Veron suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason finale and missed last weekend’s 2-0 season-opening loss to Toronto. With centerback Matt Miazga sold to Chelsea in the offseason and centerback Damien Perrinelle still recovering from a torn ACL in last year’s playoffs, Zubar got fined and suspended for a dangerous challenge on Toronto’s Daniel Lovitz.
