Derrick Etienne's 2017 season has already started. While most New York Red Bulls players were still on vacation, Etienne went to Trinidad as part of Haiti's squad for the Caribbean Cup fifth-place playoff series. Two matches later - against Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago - Haiti has won the series and qualified for a playoff for a place at the 2017 Gold Cup.
And Etienne boosted his chances of being part of the squad for that playoff by delivering two creditable performances for his country. He started both games, did not look remotely out of place, and scored his first senior international goal in Les Grenadiers' 4-3 win over T&T.
