The USA Men’s U-20 National Team capped a start-to-finish domination of the 2018 CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship with a 2-0 win over Mexico in the final.
The winning combination for both the USA’s goals was Paxton Pomykal and Alex Mendez. In the 17th minute, Pomykal cut in to the 18-yard box from the left wing, pulling a wary Mexico back line along with him - and then cut the ball back to a wide-open Mendez, whose left-footed drive from the top of the box was perfectly judged.
In the 50th minute, the El Tri defense held its shape to stifle another Pomykal run, but another cut-back set up a give-and-go that saw Mendez scythe through the back line to finish from close range.
