Sky Blue FC dropped the first round finale of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, falling 2-0 to the undefeated North Carolina Courage in Monday night’s contest at Zions Bank Stadium.
The heavily favored Courage took control of the game early, as midfielder Samantha Mewis cashed in on a chaotic scramble after Sky Blue failed to clear a corner, firing home a bullet of a half volley in the seventh minute. Crystal Dunn then put the reigning league champions ahead for good at the 56’ mark, cooly gliding past Gina Lewandowski before finding the back of the net from roughly ten yards out.
