Red Bulls settle for lethargic home draw

The Red Bulls almost never lose at home, and they avoided defeat again Saturday against Philadelphia. But arguably MLS’ team got held to a dreary, desultory scoreless draw, hardly their prettiest effort.

The ugly affair before 17,814 at Red Bull Arena saw the hosts have a Bradley Wright-Phillips goal waved offside and their four-game winning streak snapped. The visiting Union missed a penalty kick and mounted little else. That’s the kind of day it was.

The Red Bulls (8-0-3, 22 points) have lost just once in their last 14 home games, and lead the league in goal differential but couldn’t find the back of the net Saturday despite a strong late surge.
