Red Bulls defender Karl Ouimette was the victim of one of the more glaring cheap shots in recent years, kicked in the back cleats-first by the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ Romeo Parkes.
Ouimette was down on the field roughly 10 minutes before being stretchered off and taken to the hospital by paramedics in the 86th minute of New York Red Bull II’s 3-1 win Saturday.
A since-deleted tweet from Red Bulls II teammate Stefano Bonomo showed Ouimette on the team bus, still in his hospital robe. Meanwhile, USL president Jake Edwards released a statement immediately suspending Parkes.
The game got testy late, with Red Bulls teenager Tyler Adams stepping into a hard challenge on Pittsburgh’s Willie Hunt.
