‘No Excuses’ for Open Cup Loss

The New York Red Bulls failed to advance to the quarterfinals, in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, after falling 2-1 to the Philadelphia Union. The Red Bulls did not score in the first half, but did in the 77th minute, off the foot of Bradley Wright-Phillips, who came in as a sub in the 60th minute.

The team came into tonight having played five games in a span of 15 days, and could probably blame the slow start to fatigue, but Head Coach Jesse Marsch refused to use that as an excuse.

"Our guys really went after it and we were operating on fumes," Marsch said.
