In the game designed to showcase talent emerging from MLS, it was Chivas de Guadalajara's Luis Marquez who did most to boost his reputation. The MLS Homegrown team was treated to a demonstration of set-piece mastery by Marquez, who scored from the penalty spot (after winning the PK himself) and bounced a free kick past 'keeper Jesse Gonzalez just before half-time.
Those two goals were enough to win the match for the Mexico U-20 selection assembled to provide opposition for the MLS Homegrown squad. Marquez almost helped his team to a third late in the game, but his free kick was headed off the post by Omar Islas.
