Lucas Monzón signed but transfer season might not be over yet for Red Bulls

While deadline day wasn’t the barnburner some expected from the New York Red Bulls, the close of the secondary transfer window brought a flurry of news that does answer at least a few questions about the club’s short and long-term plans.

After the day began with the confirmation of Florian Valot’s move to FC Cincinnati, the Red Bulls finally added a piece to their undermanned center back corps in Uruguay youth international Lucas Monzón. Signed form domestic first division side Danubio FC, Monzón becomes the latest member of Red Bulls sporting chief Kevin Thelwell’s loan army, although this particular arrangement will see Monzón committed to New York through at least the end of 2022, with an option to purchase included as part of the deal.
