To defy the expectation that the twin-island republic's team will be no more than a makeweight in the final round of CONCACAF World Cup 2018 qualifying, Trinidad and Tobago must at least establish that there will be no easy points on offer in Port of Spain.
T&T is a very distant outsider in the six-team group competing for three automatic World Cup qualification spots out of CONCACAF (or a playoff against the fifth-best team in Asia for the fourth-placed team). Further, against Costa Rica, the Soca Warriors have never won a senior men's World Cup qualifier.
T&T head coach Stephen Hart has called Costa Rica "the best, most balanced side in the Hex", and he has been struggling to maintain the balance of his own side in the build-up to this match.
