The New York Red Bulls opened their 2017 preseason with a 2-0 win over Portland Timbers at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona.
It was the first game of RBNY's preseason, played against a team also stretching its legs in a non-training game for the first time this year - so best not to get too carried away with result. The match was divided into three 30-minute segments, and both sides used it to give as many players as they could some time on the field. It was, first and foremost, a fitness test, a chance to get back into the rhythm of competition.
