Finland has beaten Canada 3-1 in the final of the IIHF World Championship in Bratislava today. In a hard fought final, the Finns came back from a 1-0 deficit and Kaapo Kakko played a big role despite not showing up on the score sheet. When down 1-0, he drew the penalty that led to the game-tying goal by captain Marko Anttila.
Kaapo Kakko has done something no other hockey player has done since the introduction of the NHL Draft. He becomes the first player to win gold at the u18, u20 and men’s level before being draft eligible.
