The embattled Ranger who came up big against Senators

OTTAWA — Dan Boyle was surrounded by reporters in the victorious Rangers locker room, and it had nothing to do with his underwhelming play this season.

Wearing the black Broadway Hat given to the team’s MVP for each game, the struggling defenseman smiled broadly Saturday as he discussed his shootout-winning goal that helped the Rangers win their eighth straight game, a gutty 2-1 victory over the Senators at Canadian Tire Centre.

“I’ve been hard on myself a lot, but at the end of the day, it’s about winning hockey games,” said the 39-year-old Boyle, an Ottawa native.
